Have you ever noticed the existence of shadows around you？
In real life, we are bound to perceive the existence and changes of "light," but rarely do we pay attention to the "shadow" behind the light. Beyond the Shadows is a collection of fifteen artists from Taiwan and abroad, these works have subverted the superior-subordinate relationship between light and shadow and will bring you the most astonishing viewing experience of “shadows” in life.

Life's Grandeur：A Journey of Evolution

In this exhibition, diverse and dynamic life forms are presented with the evolutionary progress after several significant extinction events and environmental changes that took place on Earth.

Attack and Defense : The Evolution of Arms and Armour

In this exhibition, the arms and armour are divided into European section and non-European section to display the crafting techniques, adornment style and cultural characteristics of these weaponry worldwide.

Breaking New Ground for the Future : Rodin and His Circle

Rodin Gallery exhibits the masterpieces of 19th century French sculptor Auguste Rodin, along with the great works of his teachers, peers, and later sculptors under his influence. This exhibition aims to illustrate their competitive, collaborative and interactive influences on each other, hence presenting the background and art environment that are corresponding to his time.

The Sense of Beauty：The Western Arts from 13th-20th Century

In this permanent exhibition, the artworks from 13th to 20th century will be displayed in chronological order, allowing visitors to follow the trail of Western art development.

The Sound of Music：Making, Playing and Recording

This exhibition consists of three major instruments from Chimei's collection: Folk musical instruments, Orchestral instruments and Mechanical musical instruments. This exhibition presents the diverse musical instruments under the evolution of human creativity.

Early Violins from Various Schools : Great Makers and Their Works

The unique and renowned violins exhibited here aimed to guide visitors to learn about the early luthiers and their great works, in addition, to understand the process of bow and violin making.

Hyperrealism Art in Taiwan

Jingwei sieshih is the most prominent style of artistic creation celebrated by the CHIMEI Arts Award over the past 30 years since its establishment. The so-called “jingwei sieshih” is an expression of artists using precise and detailed artistic techniques without showing the brushworks or traces in their works.
Hyperrealism Art in Taiwan mainly displays works by CHIMEI Arts Award winners over the past three decades, together with representative works of jingwei sieshih in Taiwan before the establishment of the CHIMEI Arts Award. This exhibition manifests the achievements and contributions of this artistic style in Taiwan.

The Japanese word Omotenashi means hospitality; it is a traditional way of treating guests that has been passing down from the ancient Japan. This exhibition will present the spirit of Omotenashi, sincerity and respect of others, in the Japanese culture through fine and aesthetic ceramics and objects used in Japanese Tea Ceremony and Banquets.

Origami Universe：an exhibition of art and innovation through folding

PAST EXHIBITION

This exhibition features creations from more than 60 artists, designers, engineers, and scientists from over 20 countries. The nearly 400 pieces of artwork includes a paper-made microscope that can magnify objects up to 2000 times and lively animals created without cutting or gluing. You will find origami not only a part of our childhood memory, but also art, design, science and lifestyle.

Let's Dance! Animals - Art and Design Exhibition invited 23 artists and designers from Taiwan and around the world to take part. They incorporated two important major elements found in both nature and artistic conception —diversity and creativity. All pieces shown at the exhibition were considered at length and in depth by the artists. They wish to convey their concerns for both the animals and the natural environment. Through their artworks, they hope to encourage dialogue on the issues of how should human beings - coexist harmoniously with animals and the natural environment.

A Dream Came True : The Story of CHIMEI Museum

This is a real and touching story of a far-reaching project originated with a private dream of an inspired individual assisted by a cohort of collaborators. Ultimately they transformed the dream into reality that has since benefitted the public. However, the process of actualizing this beautiful and fantastic aspiration is an odyssey spanning over eight decades.
